Dr. David B. Axelrod
Dr. David B. Axelrod has performed and taught at literally hundreds of venues, internationally, including at the United Nations and for the American Library Association and the Key West Literary Seminars. He has given lectures and workshops around the world on the healing power of writing and ways to focus chi toward greater creativity. Dr. Axelrod has studied Eastern culture and philosophy, Buddhism and Daoism since his teens. He has advised, worked and studied with Tseng Yun-Xiang (Master Chen) since 1991, and is an Elder (Senior Advisor) on the Board of DaoUSA.
He is recipient of three Fulbright Awards including a year as Fulbright’s first poet-in-residence in the People’s Republic of China. There, he studied with some of the great masters of Chi Gong, and lectured in five provinces. His stay culminated with Fulbright’s assisting in the publication of his book, The Chi of Poetry. In addition to his B.A., M.A., M.F.A. and Ph.D., and holds certificates from the International Yan Xin Qi Gong Scientific Association as well as for his training in hypnotherapy (neurolinguistics programing) with Dr. Jon Connelly.
Dr. Axelrod is author of 23 books, including Another Way: Poems Derived from the Dao De Ching, and All Vows: New & Selected Poems (Nirala Publishing, New Delhi, India, 2017), for which he received a grant to produce a guide to creative writing/poetry for use in schools. As principal author and editor of the critical biography, Merlin Stone Remembered (Llewellyn Worldwide, 2014), Dr. Axelrod won a Gold Medal from the Florida Book Awards, and first prize for the best biography from Coalition of Visionary Resources (COVR) in 2015.
Dr. Axelrod is an official Volusia County Poet Laureate, with grants to run a Young Poets Mentoring Program, and is the founder and director of Creative Happiness Institute (CHI), whose motto, “Be Creative, Be Well,” reflects its mission. He lives with his wife, Sandra Martin, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
